Owing to the Eastern Poland Economic Promotion Programme companies operating in the aviation sector have concluded top value contracts, worth PLN 128,960,000.00m, which represents 47% of the value of all contracts signed by particular industries.
According to surveys carried out among entrepreneurs participating in the Eastern Poland Economic Promotion Programme, owing to promotional and exhibition activities, in the period from January 2010 to November 2013, aviation companies concluded contracts worth more than PLN 128m. This is the highest value among all other industries. The aviation sector was followed by the food sector with contracts worth PLN 97m and by the yacht industry with contracts reaching PLN 15m. The value of contracts concluded by the aviation sector accounted for 47% of value of particular industry contracts.
The participation of aviation companies in the Eastern Poland Economic Promotion Programme has also resulted in investments in new manufacturing lines worth PLN 20m as well as investments in new equipment of total value reaching more than PLN 2.3m.
As much as 90% of the Polish aviation industry is located primarily in Eastern Poland, in particular in the Podkarpackie and Lubelskie voivodeship. Foreign investments in the aviation sector have contributed to the expansion of companies from this region. The following companies are based in this area: WSK Rzeszów, a plant manufacturing airplane engine components; PZL Świdnik, a helicopter plant; and Goodrich, a company manufacturing aircraft components in Krosno. Significant support for the aviation sector is constituted by numerous clusters, organisations and associations, such as the Aviation Valley Association, Aeronet – Aviation Valley Centre of Advanced Technologies, Avia-SPLot Aviation Accord Network, Polish Aviation Industry Association or Polish Aviation Promotion Association.
As demonstrated by the surveys, the value of contracts concluded by aviation sector companies from the Podkarpackie voivodeship, taking part in the Eastern Poland Economic Promotion Programme, has contributed to the voivodeship success.Among all voivodeships, it was the Podkarpacie region where top value contracts, worth more than PLN 145m were concluded, which represented 54% of the value of all contracts entered into by companies from the Eastern Poland’s Macroregion.
The growth of the aviation sector from the Podkarpacie region is favoured by low labour and manufacturing costs, more than 22 thousand qualified staff, investor-friendly business environment, the Rzeszów University of Technology with a well-developed Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics, investor allowances and incentives, as well as centrally located international airport Rzeszów-Jasionka.
In the immediate future companies from Eastern Poland operating for at least 18 months and based in one of the five Eastern Poland’s voivodeships: Lubelskie, Podlaskie, Podkarpackie, Świętokrzyskie and Warmińsko-Mazurskie, operating in the aviation sector, can take part in an economic mission during the Aerospace Fairs ILA Berlin Air Show 2014 in Berlin.
