From 30 April - 2 May, a delegation of companies and self-government representatives from Eastern Poland Macroregion will be taking part in the ANNUAL INVESTMENT MEETING (AIM) in Dubai (UAE) with a goal to promote the Macroregion and the offer of the companies participating in AIM.

This is the third time that representatives of companies and local government units from Eastern Poland participate in AIM in Dubai under the Eastern Poland Economic Promotion Programme pursued by the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency (PAIiIZ). The delegation will have the chance to present investment potential of the regions and companies, and take part in numerous meetings, among others, in Hamiriyas Free Zone and with the Ras Al Khaimah Investment Authority (RAKIA).

The Annual Investment Meeting has been organised under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktouma, the Prime Minister and the Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, while the main organiser of AIM is the UEA Minister of Foreign Trade, Sheikha Lubna Al Qasmi.  The opening ceremony is attended by the UAE government ministers and the Emir of Dubai.

Every year, representatives of more than 70 countries from Asia, Africa, North America and Europe meet during the Annual Investment Meeting in Dubai.  The national delegations, particularly those representing China, Indonesia and Vietnam, are headed by ministers or ministers with the rank of a deputy prime minister.

AIM participants are responsible for the investment development and the economies of their respective countries, hence the chance to make new contacts and present the offer to the most interested parties, potential investors. Companies and local government representatives from Eastern Poland have a unique opportunity to present their output and potential directly, and thereby to increase the prospect of winning new contracts and investments” – says Bozena Czaja, Deputy President of PAIiIZ.

Polish delegation includes marshals and deputy marshals of the 5 provinces that are part of the Eastern Poland Macroregion (Warminsko-Mazurskie, Podlaskie, Lubelskie, Podkarpackie and Swietokrzyskie) and presidents and deputy presidents of Lublin, Rzeszow, Bialystok, Suwalki and Kielce.

The companies exhibiting products on the Polish stand during AIM will be representing food industry (Bartex, EkoLukta Dairy, Lactex, Lubsad, Lapy Dairy Cooperative, Uren Novaberry), furniture industry (Meblodex), industry sector (Remog, Royal-Star), luxury goods and yachts (Balt Yacht, Mellody Yachts, Nautiners, Sedna Yachts), and hotel industry (Binkowski Hotel, Ryn Castle, Zbyszko, Condohotels Management).

From Poland’s perspective, the UAE market is very attractive. According to the Central Statistical Office’s data, the size of merchandise trade between Poland and the UAE in 2012 was 453 million dollars, including import of 88 million dollars and export of 365 million dollars. Last year, we exported mostly metallurgic, ceramic and chemical products, machines and mechanical devices, and food. Companies from Eastern Poland also contributed to the export.

“It is worth mentioning that the UAE is also purchasing luxury goods manufactured in the eastern part of our country. Particularly popular are luxury yachts produced in Podlasie and Warmia and Mazury as well as Leopard car produced in Mielec. Another interesting fact is the growing popularity of health tourism and recreational trips to Europe among the citizens of the UAE. This is where we can see a huge potential, hence the representation of the hotel industry and the producers of luxury goods in AIM” – says Agnieszka Lukaszewska-Wojnarowska, Director of the Regional Development Department of PAIiIZ.

„The UAE is an important business partner for Eastern Poland. The participation in the this year’s AIM is a continuation of cooperation with the Emirati partner under the Eastern Poland Economic Promotion Programme. PAIiIZ has been actively participating in economic events in the UAE, such as AIM or Gulfood or SIAL in Abu Dhabi for 3 years already” – adds Bozena Czaja, Deputy President of PAIiIZ.

Since 2011, with the help of PAIiIZ, representatives of the Macroregion’s business and local government participated in 8 important economic events organised in the UAE. 76 businessmen and 19 representatives of local authorities took part in 2 fair trades, 2 investment missions and 4 economic missions, and the outcomes can already be noticed. In total, 10 contracts amounting to 2,492,000 Polish zloty were signed. Companies declared that the production and the export grew by 30%, and the sale by 14%.

Fruitful cooperation between Poland and the UAE has also been confirmed by direct flights between Warsaw and Dubai launched in February this year, and the UAE-Poland Business Forum as well as the visit paid by the UAE Minister of Economy, Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri. “Right after the Forum, a part of the Emirati delegation took a two-day trip to Bialystok and Podlasie, which was a result of direct meetings between the authorities and the entrepreneurs from the UAE and delegations from Eastern Poland. We hope that, following this year’s AIM, such meetings will become more frequent. Every meeting is yet another important step in starting new contracts and developing Eastern Poland” – says Agnieszka Wojnarowska from PAIiIZ.
